Fanfiction recs in the following fandoms: Community, Firefly, Into the Woods, Jane Eyre and Little Women.
Community
Stealth is Our Middle Name: shinealightonme (gen, Abed, Troy, Annie ficlet)
Summary: Abed and Troy let Annie in on a secret.
This is them being them and delightful.
Firefly
Fade Into Intention: brynnmck (Inara/Mal, Inara & crew, post Objects in Space)
Wonderful. Thoroughly Inara way of recognising she'd been lying to herself, the impact Mal had on her was so well described (and I say that as someone who can take or leave Mal/Inara), and I loved that it was equally about her and the crew.
Into the Woods
the tale you tell: kaydeefalls (Baker’s Wife centric, Baker’s Wife/Baker)
This deconstructs fairy tales even further (stories, endings, names!), while continuing to mix in some more in a way that's very true to canon. Such a credible backstory for the Baker's Wife, and the non-linear narrative was extremely effective.
Jane Eyre
Give Me My Name: ScattyUK (Jane/Rochester, more 2011 film adaptation than book)
This is so good. It honours the original(s) – the voice is just right - while exploring Jane's nature and relationship with Rochester. (Sorry, Edward.)
Little Women
Over Espresso (and Under the Umbrella): akamarykate (Jo/Friedrich, modern AU of the 1990s movie adaptation)
Excellent modern coffee shop AU. The updates were so believable and well-considered, while the characters remained the same at heart.
