First Strictly results show - 15 become 14
Oct. 5th, 2026 07:59 amA weird mustard suit jacket over an asymmetric top for Johannes, and the other presenters wore clothes as the three of them stood in front of the couples, ready to hear who’d be safe, and who’d be in the dance-off. First, a recap VT, with Bethany finding navigating a corridor tough with her Elphaba hat and a reminder of all the flinging of arms to explain how you should and shouldn’t do it by the judges. Emma and Johannes were doing the debrief with the judges, who were in quite muted colours (has everyone given up already because they know Jo-Jo will win on the outfit front??) Shirley made me wonder whether she and supposed ‘young lady’ Melanie are that different in age, and the crew got a special VT highlighting all their hard work in preparing the dancefloor throughout the show.
A VT about It Takes Two and the post-show show bridged to the next bit. Emma was now on the dance floor, announcing who was safe. (She’s probably lobbying for that to be rotated, but she’s the safest pair of hands for this business.) The first lot included some couples I’d voted for (yay) and Melanie and Aljiaz (hmm). They all joined a hoarse-voiced Josh and Jo-Jo up in the Do We Still Call It A Clauditorium, where celeb and pro got to talk, although mainly the pros were announcing what they’d be dancing next week. Lacey was horrified to learn she’d be doing the samba, Cach was delighted to learn he’d be doing the couples choice (yeah, but when that’s done, they’ll be wanting you to concentrate on technique) and Tabby will be doing the first Argentine tango. (Which will be new for Mark, too.)
Next came the The Devil Wears Prada group number with Craig and Motsi. I could have done without the spoken word bits, but Motsi was regal, coping with the glasses and wig, no problem.
The second batch of saved competitors were announced next, during which I really took in how ugly Carlos’s braces were. The last four couples were left hanging, knowing that they had a 50:50 chance of being in the dance-off (though if they were facing Chris and Amy, the others had to know they had a good chance, and, come on, if Chris and Amy were safe, they’d have been announced already.) More singalongs in the Clauditorium with the reveals of what couples would be dancing this time around.
Tim Minchin and some Matildas performed, (shouldn't they have saved that for Musicals week? Yes, there's been a film adaptation, but they were celebrating the stage show's anniversary. Was it a scheduling thing?) before we returned to find out that Jamie and Carlos would be in the dance-off against Chris and Amy. Where I thought Chris took on the notes about his performance a bit, and I realised they had a slo-mo bit after The Unzipping. Jamie seemed less confident at the start of her dance, but then gained it the more she danced with Carlos, and was clearly the better dancer. Motsi may well have to give up this idea of Jamie and Carlos going deep if they’re not getting the popular vote on the first week of voting. All four judges voted to save them.
I switched to Lights Up (thanks, smart TV), which is a ‘candid’ package after the show has wrapped, presented by Tyler and Abby. Tyler was trying to balance getting an interview with Chris with letting him get a hug from his mum. Shirley revealed that she still doesn’t get how voting on Strictly works (Craig does.) Jowita tried to claim that Lawrence’s splayed hands were because of her dress. (What’s ‘nice try’ in Polish?) Maddy has decided to channel her inner strict dance teacher with Cach, and is amusingly unimpressed by him. No interviews with the saved couple or Will and Dianne, who were also denied an interview on the show proper, and who knows if they’ll be on ITT.
Apparently they’re hiving off the Pro Challenge to be its own programme on CBBC. Ohh-kay.
