not a tea-drinker

shallownessOne of the things that I've been doing over the past few weeks, but haven't written about is continuing to catch up on Smallville season 4 on DVDs. I keep meaning to get my thoughts in order (here's a forestaste, the words 'silly' and 'pretty' may be uses), but I don't have time this morning and my thoughts really aren't in order.
Last night, I watched that episode of The Mentalist with the dead diamond-cutter and Jane hallucinates his dead daughter as a teenager. The moral of this episode is don't re-use dead men's tea from out of the sink! I guessed which episode it was from the opening frame and as it was one of the most enjoyable and moving recent episodes, I settled down for a rewatch.
It's a beautiful episode because of the bright symbols Jane hallucinates. I would love to see a vid for the Jane, Lisbon and Charlotte bits, with a few flashbacks, especially of him drinking tea to a song about Alice in Wonderland. Here, Jane is Alice, sort of, because he drank the tea. He is the one who asks the awkward questions, generally, but Lisbon is mostly the sensible one, who follows the White Rabbit - Jane and his instructions, because she also wants to play.
I love Charlotte as a manifestation of her father's subconscious, one of the few manifestations who could get away with expressing his frustrations with himself - specifically his obsession with 'Red John, Red John, Red John'. The way he settles into being her father and then the bereft look on his face when she's gone, even the decision to try to find her again by drinking belladonna later - so sad. This was also one of the pro Patrick/Teresa episodes. I probably wrote most of that when first reviewing the show.
As for what I learned in the breaks: I am confused as to whether truly new episodes of Castle are being aired on whichever of five's channels it is BUT I learned that Person of Interest is coming back next week. Given the timeslot, I expect I'll mainly be watching it on five on demand. Still, Batman on TV! Finding out what happens next!!
