Strictly Come Dancing

Two things that were bound to happen happened last night.
i. I overused the phrase ‘shut UP, Bruce’
ii. I voted (via phone. The leaderboard made me do it.)

Other things that happened were:

Best dances? Natalie owning the quickstep (jazz-fusion). Natalie getting injured was entirely predictable from the introduction show where she admitted to dance training and an injury putting pay to dancing when she was young. See also Artem’s crazy demanding choreography and celebratory hug (and didn’t Holly Valance get injured dancing with him?) However, you couldn’t see it in her dancing – good drugs – although I cringed for her at a couple of moves, but she was impossible not to watch and the concept of the outfits worked beautifully with some of the choreography.

Also Sophie’s stylish foxtrot. I loved her dress too. (Possibly just a notch less good than Natalie’s.)

I’d have put Patrick above Abbey, actually. I wanted him to excite me, because he’s been good and shown potential but got lost in the mix last week. And he did (probably Latin suits him better than ballroom). I loved the way he played the dance, there was lots of control and so much confidence. I liked Abbey’s tango, but not as much as the judges did.

Everyone else: Susanna was fearless and Kevin wore glasses. I was a little happier than the judges – Craig’s grading curve this week!?!? Mark and Iveta’s Hammer Time number was pure entertainment, and I loved how together they were. I didn’t see it as a cha-cha, per se, but what do I know? Len reeled off some steps that appeared. Still, as a routine, I loved it.

Kristina finally got to pull out the lift routine she’s been dying to do since being paired with Ben in the salsa!

Ola’s dress was lovely, and I’m sure that Ashley’s Viennese Waltz was fine, but I still think there should be a moratorium on ‘In the arms on an Angel’ for another five years, and that distracted me. Rachel tried very hard and I loved bits of the choreography, but you only have to compare it with what Natalie was doing. Besides, it’s not the dance that will be remembered, but the judges’ meltdown. Surely that’s guaranteed a slo-mo recreation on Len’s Lens at least.

The jive wasn’t Deborah’s dance (loved HER hair, though) and because she might be in danger and in general I find her love of dance infectious, I voted for her. I spent most of the Dave time thinking about how at least he loves dance and is trying, unlike John Sargeant. Also trying, in both senses of the word, is Julien. A Spice Girls song! Even if he too got ‘best dance yet,’ surely he can’t last much longer.

One thing that was pretty abysmal throughout the show (except for Bruce’s captain obvious commentary and actual rudeness) was the VTs where everyone had a bright idea about how to improve their dances. I vaguely believed that Abbey and Rachel’s maybe helped them physically. But Fiona had quite a good one, reminding us that she’s a superfan and showing off the three generations of fans in her family. Such a good set-up. But then a rumba with Anton was never going to be good – I mean, I think I’d have hated it even if it had been danced well, which it wasn’t. And even if poor Fiona didn’t agree with the judges, who were right, she should know when to talk back and when not to. Oops.

Tess was pretty good for her, especially in comparison with Sir Please Retire Me Now. Sending Dave to ballet class can only be better than the other VTs, although they've already used it with Ben.

Atlantis - 1.4 Twist of Fate

I am enjoying this show so much more than Agents of SHIELD.

There, I admitted it. But I was snickering along at the banter and enjoying the action and the three (Atlantean) men with a baby shenanigans. I only realised who Oedipus was when Jocasta was named, because my knowledge of Greek myth and legends is patchy, which may help with my enjoyment of this daft show.

Minos is still totally oblivious. Maybe Pasiphae has cast a spell on him. It was also amusing that although Pasiphae was innocent of adultery (but totally in on a plot to kill a child), based on what she knew of her stepmother, that is what Ariadne thought. I thought Tyreseus (?) was an excellent character, the actor had real presence and sparked off everyone else, especially when he revealed where his true allegiances lay. So, it's a shame that he wasn't attached to Minos's court.

If the whole Hercules crush thing is what drives Medusa (who is still resourceful and sensible and trying to be good, but shouldn’t be soft-hearted about Hercules) to her fate, I will be enraged.

Oh, and Pythagoras and Hercules admitted Jason is special, not just in the Jason is weird and ignorant of our ways sense, but in the slo-mo SFX super powered sense. And probably the slasher-baiting sense.
