I watched and enjoyed Ambassadors episode 2 live. I liked that we saw pretty much everyone who’d been introduced as being Embassy staff and Tajikis from the first episode again. I was a little thrown by the Prince Mark is diplomatic gold volte-face, because apart from hearing about the child labour, I didn’t see build-up for any of it, but it was funny. I do hope every episode isn’t going to include Keith and co wrestling with dodgy British business interests versus doing the right thing by helping an individual in peril of their life. Mitchell and Webb’s long partnership seeped through at times to overshadow where Keith and Neil’s working relationship should be at.
By the way, I realised my review of the first two episodes of Orphan Black never cross-posted to LJ. Here it is on Dreamwidth.
I only got around to watching last Friday’s double-bill today. I’m not sure I’m up for watching another double-bill tonight, although I’m keen to know what next, but normally one episode leaves me needing a bit of a lie down. Four episodes in one day is abit much...
Orphan Black 1.7 Parts developed in an unusual manner
So, Olivier is part of Leekie’s neolution or whatever it’s called, and they all created and monitored the clones (which simplifies things).
Seeing Helena with Thomas, it was impossible not to feel sorry for Helena, in all her psychotic broken creepiness. Loved the detail of her hunger. Was she carrying the tail on the dancefloor? I couldn’t look too closely.
Having thought about it, though, if they managed to clone humans twenty-five years ago, why isn’t cloning further advanced? Why too is Leekie seeking to make a connection with Cosima? Wouldn’t it be dangerous to have a clone with her intelligence and training at the centre of the research? So why initiate contact, let alone invite her in?
That only occurred to me afterwards. As ever, as the episode went on, I was too busy being hugely tense all around. Loved Felix’s ‘Don’t die’, Paul’s puppy-dog eyes, even as it became clear Sarah hadn’t been fully forthcoming to him.
And baby Sarah’s mysterious appearance is interesting – strengthening the ‘she’s special’ theory.
Good to have the police team back, even if they’re not going to come close to the right solution without help. Felix connecting with Art is going to lead to trouble. So, as ever, the episode ended with several complications.
1.8 Entangled Bank
...
I yelped at the end. The Kira-Helen bit was creepy-heartbreaking.
The idea of ‘the black’ as the pipeline for experimented upon kids works for this ‘verse, and I love that the meaning of the title of the show has come clear so gradually.
The Alanis Morrisette song choice was perfect. Flipping out!Allison is always good value, although I’d actually like to have seen her connecting with her kids.
Because Art decided to keep what they know secret, I’m fairly sure his partner is going to go.
I'm sure there was more that occurred to me that I should jot down, but...all the plates that are turning and who knows what and who doesn’t is making my brain a bit frazzled.
