Was there a theme? I didn't quite catch it

I switched the TV on on Saturday night seconds into Abbey’s rumba, which was very good. I thought, though, compared with Natalie’s rumba, that it was a little placed, and I think I’d have liked it more if it hadn’t been in Halloween costume and if the choreography had done a little more with the shift in the middle of the song.
Then there was Dave’s jive, which, dance-wise, was dire. I wondered if it would work against him that this was Halloween and everyone else would have a gimmick too.
And finally, Susanna, who was reliably good – I thought the transitions to the lifts could have been a little more fluid, but I was delighted that she got nines. I then glimpsed the leaderboard, was shocked at Sophie’s position, then saw the clips of the dances and understood why a little better.
I managed not to get spoiled much for the results show, which I avoided because I wanted to watch the whole thing.
The Time Warp was crazy and messy – I’m glad that it wasn’t just Craig among the judges who got in on it. I’d actually love to see Len and Darcey dance together more, and performing in that clearly loosened Darcey up to show how it’s done a la Bruno. So, they clearly feel it’s time to bring in the celebs into the group numbers. Was that Natalie Lowe?
I thought Patrick’s quickstep had a lot of content and I loved the style. I like Anya’s choreography. Great comeback.
Fiona’s Charleston was neat at times. I’d tend to agree that it lacked the wow-factor. She looks good, but I’m starting to get tired of her tone-deafness in response to the judges’ comments.
Ah so, Kristina tried out shirtlessness, in the hope that it would be distracting, but I thought it exposed a little timidity in Ben. Amusing that Len’s sportsman favouritism made him over-mark it, while the other three were a bit more restrained despite the sighing.
Ouch. Sophie’s jive was slightly uncomfortable to watch. I didn’t think she had her usual style, actually. I don’t know what this will do to her confidence, which she needs. I suppose it’ll depend on what dance she gets next.
Natalie’s Viennese Waltz was beautiful. She is a dancer, because every move was controlled and graceful (but I do think it’s not fair, because her starting base is different from most of the others). We had the usual Len laying down the law about the form instead of appreciating the dance, and Artem nodding along as if he isn’t going to be creative the very next chance he gets, especially with such material. Not a shock that ‘Dave’ was one of the first to give out a 10, and at least someone else joined in.
Iveta deserves a contender next year. Anyone who comes up with a camp space-themed disco!paso deserves it. I enjoyed it.
I thought Rachel did better, and I liked the lifts, even if I didn’t quite feel the whole thing. High time she got a dance she liked more. (PASHA DRESSED UP AS A CAT!!!)
But I did like the feel of Ashley’s tango – of course, he acted his way through it, but actors are allowed, and the judges’ comments were fair enough. You can tell that he’s too busy to put in the work needed to improve, which is what makes him a frustrating contender.
Bruce seemed quite confused at times – no more than he has in previous years, but I noticed even though I was zipping through the filler.
Sunday
That version of Bad Romance was the best pro dance of the season easily. EASILY. I also enjoyed the male dancers’ Robert Pattinson inspired hair in the Madness performance, and how the dancers and the group melded together – FIRE EATER AHOY.
I hadn’t noticed Ola’s eyes until they stood waiting for the results.
Poor Abbey! I knew there was a shocker coming. Perhaps being joint second with someone more popular (Susanna?) and someone everyone felt guilty about (Patrick) didn’t help. But everyone finds her likeable too, plus there’s Aliasz. Is it the online voting skewing voting patterns, or did a lot of people vote for Sophie? Or is everyone just voting for Dave and Fiona? (I pick on those two, because I’m tired of them now.)
Poor Rachel!! Cause she did improve, which meant that nobody decided to vote for her. And she knew she wasn’t going to survive against Abbey.
Is it wrong that I cheered up the second it was announced that there’ll be no Bruce and that Claudia will be joining Tess next week?
