Strictly

Without Bruce, there was the faintest waft of fresh air blowing away some cobwebs, I loved the mocking of the opening dance. Tess comes off as more human, although she was was up and down, while Claudia was a delight.

I can't but agree with the split in the leader board. At the bottom, Ben’s jive went like I thought Ben’s jive would go. Fiona and Anton’s paso to Blur’s Song 2 was not as awesome as, say, Ola’s paso to Blur’s Song 2 would be. If they do get voted through – not that I’d welcome it – they should do a waltz to Oasis for balance. I desperately want Iveta to have a contender next year. IF they stay for next week (and to be honest, I’d rather they did over Fiona and Anton) they need to play it straight, but Dr Evil, golden catsuits and a Bond theme for a rumba? Why not alongside the McTango – I thought Karen did the best she could choreographically, but I knew the moment I heard the song that the word ‘stompy’ would be used by the judges, and lo, it was.

On the other hand, I loved Abbey and Aljaz’s Charleston, for some of the references that Craig and Bruno picked up on, but for being infectiously happy. Because of that, and feeling sorry for her last week, I did vote for her. Susanna and Kevin’s waltz was a dream (okay, with one or two bits that didn’t quite flow). It sounded as if they’d upped the difficulty content (to me, I might be misunderstanding the judges) but what did come across was her love for dance, so I voted for them too.

Subdued feelings about Natalie – not great to see someone who’s just fainted shaking violently, and from what could be seen of the jive, it was really high energy and not something for someone who is poorly to attempt. Though you knew it would have been excellent.

Ashley discovered that if he does work at it in the ten seconds of his week he has allotted for Strictly, which is why he shouldn’t have done the show, he can improve. I wasn’t quite as ga-ga as the judges for it, but I liked the more modern feel and Ola’s loose hair. I fell somewhere between the judges and Brendan over Sophie’s Argentine tango. Lovely shapes, though I thought she got tired in the last minute. I thought the judges were both harsh and right. I also LOVED the instrumental tangoised Sweet Dreams. Patrick’s American Smooth was a show-stopper. Again, I wasn’t quite as enamoured as the judges – I don’t think Darcey’s ten was justified. But he totally deserves to go through.

The bottom 2 should definitely come from the bottom 4 - Dave really hasn’t improved at all.

Atlantis 1.7 Rules of Engagement

Pythagoras’s striped black and white blanket was the cutest thing.

CORINNE!!!

I though Ariadne took a slight step up in breaking off the engagement, but she needs to buck up her ideas if she’s going to play games with Pasiphae. Or potentially good supporting characters will keep dying and I will get annoyed with her. Um, does all this mean Medusa might become Ariadne’s maid? Any good advice the princess gets, the better.

Anything that’s not Medusa/Hercules would be good. Be soft-hearted enough to forgive him and be friends with him, sure, but hand-holding? Ech.

Lots of amusing moments, lots of moments where the script could have credited the audience with some brains and more proof that they can’t kill off Pasiphae. But it looks like Minos will be a goner.
