The Good Wife 5.4

Again, a class act. (I feel I need to change up my praise.) For one thing, we had all sorts of returning characters – Kurt, Tascioni, Rita Wilson’s lawyer character and Jackie. And of course that’s how Jackie would be now that her son is Governor. I did like the moment where Eli did what Diane had been accused of doing by the paralegal. And Jackie carried it out with aplomb, or as much aplomb as you can have in the circumstances.

While it was mainly about Diane and the inherent comparison for Alicia, I did feel for Will. That moment where Alicia flirted with him? Don’t give him crumbs of hope when you’re about to stab him in the back, Alicia! And I thought that she’d told Cary they were leaving forthwith, but the other associates still clung to getting their bonuses (which I can understand, but don’t think is wise when they’re planning to leave and take all these clients, plus the little boys seem prone to making stupid decisions that don't merit a bonus). The issue with downloading files made me feel a little mollified.

And it was so tense about Diane getting suspicious, then finding out. Then there was the tension of whether she’d stand Kurt up to save her firm, but she’s classier than that. However, I think she may well pass on the judgeship – a nomination from the Governor who is going to be a USP for Alicia’s new firm versus the firm Diane helped to build? I don’t think so.

The moment where Alicia walked into Diane’s (old, nearly relinquished) office, which she had been offered BTW, was good. Lots of striking visual touches in this one – like that giant rat thing.

I also loved all the Diane/Kurt. Her friends were perfect and then the scene where Diane, woman of a certain age, lawyer for many years quizzed her man on his younger lady friends was spot on. I loved that the central point of whether their love would survive outside ‘the bubble’ was a valid one and that Diane faced that question to some degree. Oh, but I love Diane/Kurt. They epitomise a sort of romance we don't get to see enough of. I would have liked to have seen some of his response to all that’s happened to her of late and having that relationship affect her take on it more, but given the nature of the show (basically nobody except Alicia is going to get that much family and friends time), that’s fair enough.

And it was great to see even more people (Diane?, David Lee etc) come across Tascioni for the first time. I <3 Elspeth Tascioni so very much.

I think my first coherent thought after this episode was 'Next, please'. If I was watching this seres on a boxset, I probably would slip into the vortex of watching every episode with barely a break for breathing.
