The Musketeers 1.05
Well, it’s a good job it’s already been renewed, because that was a bit underwhelming. It got more predictable as it went on, although unlike D’Artagnan, I never believed Porthos had done it.
I was miffed by the lack of women, (if it had been the Cardinal's right handed woman taking down the CoM, she'd have done it far more effectively.) At least they only injured and didn’t fridge the only speaking female character who, oh yes, seemed to be the one who didn’t lose sight of the fact that the plan to blow up the Court of Miracles would kill all those people, instead of angsting about who left who and who the girl wanted and the name of her house.
The idea of a king of thieves versus the king of France was mildly interesting, but I’m not sure that having Porthos and the others separated for most of the episode worked. What we learned of Porthos’s backstory, by the end, didn’t amount to very much that was new, did it? And oh look, Anton Lesser was a baddie, a worse and worse baddie as we went on.
(I probably shouldn’t trust The Musketeers on historical accuracy, but what kind of Protestants WERE those Hugenots?)
Some nice locations, as ever and some cool little skirmishes, but I didn't take to it much.
