Ep 69 Portrait
I like the repeat of the young women using child-sized furniture – Rose seemed really tall in particular. But as if Jane would be filming herself doing lesson planning. Rose is still very much Lady Bountiful – yes, why not buy a disposable camera per child and develop them all (instead of coming up with lesson plans that might lead to cheaper, more effective and less messy lessons).
What could possibly go wrong with Jane matchmaking for Rose and Simon? Even if I bought entirely the ‘too focused on doing good’ (although I think one could read between the lines and see that he might be self-abnegating and not wanting to go after the big boss man’s daughter) instead of interpreting him as having real issues with reading social cues, which is what I do, it all screams setting things up for a fall.
At least Jane does sincerely come off as trying to matchmake where she believes there are less substantial obstacles than a mad wife/habitual lying and callousness. She's basically trying to make other people could be happier where she can’t be. I'm not entirely convinced at her posting her scheming, though.
Ep 70 Rant
Was it really a rant? I flatter myself on my rants, and I don’t think that qualified.
Between the similies-cum-metaphors and the fact that I don’t really remember what happens to Mary in the books (do she and Diana not have to go off and be governesses for a while?) I was confused for a bit.
I know they snarked at Jane, but my theory is that the Rivers never had tea in the house until Jane and now they’ve all started to use it. So, Jane went intense because LYING and will perhaps eventually talk about what happened to her to the Rivers – or they could watch the videos but that’s such a blind spot as it is that Mary has now told (part of) the internet, but not ‘Hilary’ how she feels about babies and their relationship.

I have to take back the 'blind spot' comment. I think I sometimes forget that they watched LBD too, even as I reference it. And this is even though TAoJE has been willing to go where LBD feared to tread.
But going all Gogglebox with Mary – Jane’s reactions to everything were interesting too and when they were hiding behind cushions together, it was ridiculously cute, but it was good for Jane to rewatch (most of) her vids and get the immediate, unmediated response of someone she knows and cares for IRL by her side.
And Mary asked if Jane thought he watched these vlogs!? (It’ll be interesting if Mary urges Diana and Simon to watch them).
I don’t know about what I think of Jane’s ‘not selfish enough’ theory about Rochester – I’d lean more towards the ‘screwed up’ and needing to fix/acknowledge in what ways school of thought. But I'm not in love with him.
