I posted nine fics this year, five were ficlets, but four passed the thousand-word mark, which is a lot for me. The only fandom I wrote more than once in was Downton Abbey, (ha!) most were obscure fandoms, or old or featured less popular pairings – this was brought home to me by writing a vignette in the MCU (it had three times the number of hits on AO3 of any other fic I wrote this year.) Six of these fics were based on prompts, mainly from lj's comment_fic. Six were het pairings, and I’d say I ship four of those pariting strongly, while the other two are canonical, and the other three fics were gen.

So, without my meaning for it to happen, it became months since I last watched an episode of The Autobiography of Jane Eyre. Perhaps I prefer catching up with webseries rather than watching them live, never mind the transmedia of it all. Last night, because ITV’s Player wouldn’t work (it’s the most convoluted of the players) and I wanted something a little more cosy than BtVS, I finally got around to watching the final episodes of AoJE

Episodes 92 to 95 )

EDIT: If you want to watch The Autobiography of Jane Eyre, go here for the videos and Storified stuff.

AND THEN YouTube cannily promoted ‘Classic Alice’ on the side of one of those videos, and I was intrigued.

Episode 1 is entitled Down the Rabbit Hole. While not based on a specific novel, it’s a transmedia-ish metatextual high-concept fictional vlog. Or something. It had the equivalent of footnotes. I’m doomed.

Spoilers from the prequels to episode 3

The narrative (with vids, Tumblr posts, tweets and pictures) is here although it’s not exhaustive. The Classic Alice ENTIRETY! playlist seems to have all the vids.

As you can see below, I've caught up somewhat on bits and bobs, but I spent the weekend without the internet, so I'm way behind. (Actually, the only shows I'm all caught up on are Revenge and The Good Wife to go from one extreme of quality to the other.)

It’s been a while, so I had plenty to catch up on yesterday, when, as it happened, the latest episode was posted, so I’m bang up to date.

I tried to catch up on last week’s Revenge (3.11, Homecoming) on 4 on Demand, but it wasn’t available for whatever reason, so I had to turn to Television without Pity. Huh, turns out the recap writer is anti-Jack and pro-Aidan, which is the opposite of where I am. Also, spoiler )

I then caught up on The Autobiography of Jane Eyre eps 73-74 )

In short, I think they’re handling the Rivers better than the Reeds. Also, I refer to what happens next in the books when discussing episodes.

In greater detail )

Then there was only one episode left and I’d be caught up, but I had to switch off the computer, so I never got caught up. I almost don’t want to, because then I’d be watching live and that would be new and weird.

Title: How Tea and Socks go together
Fandom: The Autobiography of Jane Eyre
Rating: G
Characters/Pairing: Jane/Rochester (or Tea/Socks)
Summary: Socks needs Tea, and Socks gives Tea something she never had before.

Disclaimer: Not mine.
Author's Note: 226 words. Inspired by episode 54. Anthropomorfic!AU, I suppose. (Not the crackiest fic I’ve ever written.)

I’ve found that this page lists all the vids and occasionally other stuff in order: hurrah.

Episodes 31 to 40, which is basically Jane at the Reeds.

An attempt to summarise my reaction. )

Jane Eyre is number 12 in the Observer’s top 100 novels, and Robert McCrum explains why here. As I’d been watching a lot of The Autobiography of Jane Eyre over the weekend, this jumped out at me:

Charlotte Bronte takes her audience by the throat with a fierce narrative of great immediacy. Jane Eyre's voice on the page is almost hypnotic. The reader can hardly resist turning the next page, and the next…

In an extraordinary breakthrough for the English novel, borrowing the intimacy of the 18th-century epistolary tradition, Charlotte Brontë had found a way to mesmerise the reader through an intensely private communion with her audience. We, the author, and Jane Eyre become one. For this, she can be claimed as the forerunner of the novel of interior consciousness.

The adaptation was having a similar pull on me, as did LBD at times - my tendency is to watch these vids in blocks that are as long as television shows. It’s partly the format – ‘diarist’ speaking to viewer, but it’s also wondering how they'll adapt a beloved story factor.

Anyway, thoughts about episodes 21 to 30.

Makes no allowance for people who haven't read the book. )

Hmm, might as well have posted my response episode by episode, as that jumped a little all over the place.

I heard about The Autobiography of Jane Eyre a while ago, kept the link, was reminded of its existence by redbrunja this week, was intrigued and watched a batch of episodes last night and a pile more this morning, so I’m up to episode 20. I've had one window open with the Story list and been mainly watching the vids on YouTube.

I have thoughts, which I have tried to synthesise rather than dumping my reactions to each episode, but it still got long. spoilers up to episode 20, references to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and I presume you've all read Jane Eyre ) I want to know what they’ll do next. Even though I know what happens next.
