Agents of SHIELD 1.13 T.R.A.C.K.S.

I am definitely going to make a point of watching this on big TV sets, it helps me get into the sweep of the action. While it wasn’t as good as last week, it was fine and I enjoyed the opening twenty minutes or so, with the whole going undercover on the train business, May being fierce and most of Simmons. To recap, looking like Sydney Bristow, coming up with a detailed and unconvincing backstory, worrying about an injured Ward – stop giving me shipper fodder, show – shooting first, asking questions later and being competent enough to save Skye for now and breaking down in private. Loved that Fitz knew to come to comfort her.

I wasn’t convinced that the structure where we kept going back and finding out what happened to everyone from the announcement onwards was really necessary. It was so incremental and there weren't any great subversions - so the bomb wasn't what Coulson and Ward thought it was, so May was actually off the train etc - and I don’t much care if Skye carks it. I mean, she’s clearly not going to because we need to find out what she is (this week’s theory is that she’s a Key, not a Slayer). Until it turned out that he was bad and May probably dealt with his men, Russo’s line about all his men being dead while Coulson’s were gone made me chuckle.

I enjoyed Skye being too angsty to realise Fitz has a wee crush driving his need to prove himself in front of her. Coulson won at handling Ward/May and they’re continuing to handle the weight of his past with May well.

Deathlok means nothing to me and I can’t say that I was doing much beyond hooting ‘cyborg’ at Mike.

Was Stan Lee reprising his Iron Man role as Hugh Heffner? Nice of him to turn up.

On the future Agents of SHIELD casting spoiler that Amy Acker will appear.

My first response was ‘Of course she will’ because DUH.

The second thought I had was ‘Oh, I hope she’s not playing the cellist.’

So, I clicked the link and of course she is.

And because they’re a repertory (much like with British actors) I have to shove the fact that Clark Gregg played her uncle in Much Ado aside.

Which all reminds me that I’m sure there was a reference to a character named ‘Aly Hannigan’ in last week’s episode.

I then caught up with Parks and Recreation

3.12 The Fight

Really, really funny, from April and Andy’s terrible role playing thing, but it was endearing how it worked for them, a drunk Ron wearing April’s hat in the montage (icons 12 and 13 in this animated set by burn-to-emerge explain my glee at that to Leslie and Ann’s fight. Also Leslie and Ben were adorable.

Granted, Leslie being on the committee after trying to help Ann prep was dubious given that they had Chris make such a point about Tom (as Ron put more upliftingly, he’s too much of an idiot to gain financially from his schemes), but that’s totally beside the point.

Didn’t like Leslie’s red blouse with the bird print. At all.

3.14 Road Trip

KISSING!!!

Before that, literally perfect deployment of Chris.

Also Ron + libertarianism + a nine year old girl = hilarity.

Ditto the eighties news clip of the raccoons and Leslie's line about how they have one side of town and the humans another, which is probably true.

I'm really confused as to whether Pawnee is a town or city. Do Americans have a different definition (I think here it's that it has a cathedral or the Queen said so) or am I overthinking a fictional place in a sitcom?

I could see Jerry and Donna coming a mile off, but the execution really flew with Tom sort of knowing how terrible his ‘show’ was and April and Andy sort of winning me over...

One thing that’s clear from the last two episodes is that Ann’s sofa has superpowers. Also, what WAS she wearing!?

But mainly KISSING!!!

And yes, of course, political biographies.
