Thirty plus NotWs. Okay.
I don’t know why Finch made a song and dance of making sure Shaw was in on this, as they call her up for any old NotW by now. (As they should.)
Meanwhile, I think Lionel would be happier working with Shaw than Reese, who pulls a fake cop badge and then is rude to him.
Joss Carter might be playing a lone game (and what a tragic charge there was to her refusal of John’s help) but she was using some techniques/gizmos learned from Team Machine.
Lots of juicy scenes. I did find the history for Taylor (oh, we’re remembering him now)’s babydaddy coming out on Joss’s first day as a cop was a little too pat to be one of them, but Elias’s conversation with the Russian mobster was one, as was Shaw arming Carter. Or rather, Reese (unknowingly) armed her, which deserved a wry smile, given how desperate he was for her not to start a war in her attempt to get revenge.
It looked like he was too late as she deftly applied pressure everywhere.
Although the stuff about needing to protect Taylor from his father was interesting as it shed light on Joss, I was more moved by the partner stuff between her and Lionel. I pulled out a heartfelt ‘oh, Lionel’ at that, which I haven’t for a while because he’s had so little screen time. But Joss was a step ahead of everyone else – I loved that she didn’t forget about the collateral damage, and the Machine underestimated that – which made her three steps ahead of Lionel.
Fake out!!! I thought she hadn’t called John and was preparing to blow herself up – but I was confused because I also thought she’d probably have picked up that the judge would have called Quinn having cloned his phone. I underestimated how much of a cop she was – and that she listened to what she’d taught her son. And yes, Taylor would be the one person likely to dissuade her, so they justified the flashbacks about him and his father.
The price is John’s face going out far and wide, though. And this business with HR is clearly not finished, so it was quite the misnomer of a title.
I chose to start catching up on this before Gotham aired over waiting for Gotham started, FWIW. Both convenience and content played a part in the decision. Yay for catch-up facilities.
