shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (POI Shaw)
I watched PoI season 4 on DVD between 2021-22 and should have posted this (well, it would have been an even longer, ramblier version, probably disc by disc) then, but I didn’t. That would have been about seven years after it aired (and about four years after I watched season 3.) Overview, what I liked, what I didn't like, etc. )

shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (POI Shaw)
I spent the end of March posting a lot of recs at [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers before it came to an end. I may repost them at a more lesiurely pace at [dreamwidth.org profile] het_reccers, which asks for slightly different information). What I’ve learned: to stop being precious about the content of my recs, which may have been why my reccing at the comms dropped off - when I'm reccing here, I'm much more chilled because it's my space; it’s easier to post a few recs in a go than masses because of fiddly HTML; I liked a lot of het fic from Yuletide 2015.

Also, if anyone who, like me, liked Taraji P. Henson as Joss Carter in Person of Interest, saw the trailer for ‘Proud Mary’ and thought ‘Ooh’, profit from my experience: it’s dull. You're really better off watching a couple of PoI eps. Kudos to whoever made the trailer, but it makes the film look way better than it is.

Thirdly, I posted a ficlet yesterday: Not Quite a Gulp (Sherlock, U. Molly Hooper (Molly/Sherlock). 125 words. Set during ‘The Final Problem’). I wrote it the weekend before last, when the prompt 'magpie' made me think of the scenario, let it rest, got the idea for the title and posted it. I hope to post a few more ficlets over the coming days as a sort of spring cleaning because since finishing the reccing, I’ve been looking over what I thought were snippets, polishing them and writing new bits and bobs.

Fourthly, I intend to play TV catch up today so perhaps I’ll be posting about the results of that.

Next on the DVD pile is season 5 of Smallville. I know - I rewatched the season 4 finale the other daym which can be summed up by the punctuation marks '!?' and mostly not in a good way.

I was offline for all fannish intents and purposes for a few days, but I did spend that time working my way through Person of Interest episodes. Here are my thoughts.

Over twenty months ago, I was happily watching the start of season 3 of PoI as it aired on the telly, when it went on a break and I didn’t realise it had come back until after too many episodes had been shown for me to catch up. I decided to buy the DVD, which I eventually did and I started rewatching the show over Christmas. I then had a month and a half where I didn’t have access to the DVDs, but that has been resolved and I’ve now rewatched the first eight episodes of the season. From here on in, it’ll be all new to me, give or take a couple of spoilers – it’s amusing that five (or one of its channels) is now on to airing the fifth season.

Also, I saw Hidden Figures over the weekend, I was thoroughly entertained and rated the script highly for what it managed to do. Great to see Taraji P. Henson lap up the role.

I discovered a little while ago that Scorpion is back on UK screens for a third series, but several episodes had aired, so I've decided just to switch to DVD and enjoy it from the beginning instead of trying to deal with the ITV2 schedule. Currently, I'm rewatching episodes I've already seen of Person of Interest season 2 on DVD.

I posted Fancy Hotel, a Person of Interest/The Night Manager ficlet. Zoe and John were the focus of the prompt and remain the focus of the fic, but I had TNM on my mind and it was the spark for me. I wish I could have come up with a better title, but at least I managed a summary.

Of course, I’m now behind again because I chose to watch Scorpion (post to come).

I went to see a double-bill of films yesterday for the first time in ages. First was Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Yes, I know. One word review: ponderous.

more words ) There were lots of problems, but I’ll focus on the most relevant one, which is that you’ve seen the trailer(s), and who hasn't given the promo push, most of the film will not come as a surpise.

And before this film a new-to-me Captain America: Civil War trailer aired and I think that contained a major development that made me clap my hands to my mouth in disbelief that they’d show that now. What is wrong with the people behind cutting these trailers? Stick to the first third, show glimpses of the main characters, give a flavour of the mood...people are going to go see films featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Batman and Superman!

Having said that, The Lego Batman Movie trailer filled me with glee.

What I wasn’t spoiled for in BvS:DoJ was Read more... ) Roll on the Wonder Woman solo movie, which seems like the only thing DC is doing that Marvel seems to need to worry about.

The second film I saw was Eddie the Eagle, which is thoroughly entertaining. It has also had a huge promo push in the UK, and benefits from being a sporting underdog dramedy based on a true story that I'm about old enough to remember, but I don't think they used the last third in the promo material.

Finally, I've caught up on Parks and Rec

It’s been announced that there will be a second series of Humans, which is a rarity for grown-up British sci-fi these days, so hurrah. It has improved – I have mainly good things to say about the last episode - although I think it could do with more female writers, a look at the pacing if they’re introducing more characters and more intentional humour.

I’ve found out that actually, Person of Interest came back on five in June (why did they have a month’s break?), so I had no chance of catching up. As the show now has Shaw as a regular, I intend to buy the third season on DVD, so I’ll catch up in my own sweet time.

I chose to start catching up on this before Gotham aired over waiting for Gotham started, FWIW. Both convenience and content played a part in the decision. Yay for catch-up facilities.

ETA: I'm disappointed that the Hunterbird spin-off will not be happening (er, because it was mooted and Disney/Marvel probably see the show as promo for the MCU, I always assumed Agents of SHIELD would be back. I hope Bobbi and Hunter return to our screens to some extent, but I am going to fervently hope that this means Palicki is available for some amazing project.)

POI 3.7 The Perfect Mark

Caught up on this instead of waiting for it to be repeated, as Longmire is now in the nine o’clock slot. I have not been impressed with schedulers pushing back shows I want to watch one hour all this week. Well, twice. But still.
