shallownessHumans 2.3 (I did watch this live, but posting about Strictly and life getting busy stopped me from posting this.)
Niska getting tested for consciousness and mainly being mildly bored and not human about it all was the spine of this.
After the synths’ terrible experiment in keeping someone prisoner went wrong, Mia stayed to have her first romance, separating from Leo and Max. Whatever they did to get the synth eyes to glow so brightly in the goodbye scene between Mia and Max was very effective. They’re tearing through plot with the Mia/Ed romance – what he said about how he’d noticed odd stuff about ‘Anita’ and was wondering if he was imagining things, perhaps because he liked her and he’d thought that he was a sadcase made me wish we’d seen just a bit more of that. I suppose we partly didn't because the audience had seen it last season, but they're leaving us to care about the ship only because Mia wants it. Anyway, with his friend seeing them kissing, and Mia not being able to shuck off the Anita persona and live as Mia there, I doubt they have a long and happy future ahead of them even if they are cute (although another hopeless male and supercompetent female when she's not screwing up).
Joe finally noticed Sophie is acting oddly, because he has a rubbish job and so can spend more time at home, being accidentally perved on by newly awake Pinnochio. Oh, Mattie !?!?!
Toby made contact with Synthie Girl, braving teenage boy mockage, although the more I think about it, the less that’s a lifestyle choice than a mental disorder. How does she eat?
We learned more of Dr Athena’s personal details in ‘San Fransisco’ – a comatose daughter, for whom V is in some part a replacement. As the show uses the parent-child metaphor so much, it’s good, I think, they had a woman as scientist-creator with very muddled feelings about her artificial-child. Anyway, off she ‘went’ to England, to blackmail Hobb (heh). And we got to see the Silo before Leo – it cuts through a lot of waffle you'd get in other shows that Milo’s company is behind the conscious synth hunt.
Karen was back passing as human, and at least Pete was decent to her when he bag burst. I imagine their case will soon weave into the bigger story.
Hester got some more data to input. I hope Fred comes back to be a more complicated/dangerous male synth.
The director was very into the visuals, which was enjoyable, but the transitions from scene to scene started getting way too on the nose.
