Less objectifying, so one big DNW was removed, but there was still plenty to make me sulk about the genre shift. The opening scene seemed to be a problem for the Winchesters, but no, our mystery woman wasn’t a ghost, she was a something else – something to do with nuclear reactors, tech in a box that excited Fitzsimmons and a him who may or may not be Robbie Reyes aka the one whose head turns into a delightful flaming skull. Or not.
Anyway, he was getting stalked by Daisy, who really feels more like Dark Skye these days. Robbie worked out that she had a death wish, Daisy worked out he wasn’t an Inhuman (so last season, I joked…except that’s not entirely true). When she did bump into Mac and Fitz and rejected more than the bare minimum of help, but demanded a lot of trust, there was a lot of hurt and bitterness around – especially from Fitz.
May was stoic and more resistant to the seeing people as not!ghosts thing than the Chinese gang member, but eventually succumbed. I initially thought she should talk to Simmons, but her rationale for not trusting the others as part of whatever had been done to her made sense.
What did not make sense was why the rest of them didn’t try to bring her down with a tranq instead of fighting her. She’s Melinda May, even several of her trainees and Coulson weren’t going to do it. Where was Simmons and her iPad of disposing tranquilising gas?
Oh well, we had to have the big reveal about the new Director. It wasn’t the love of Orwellian slogans and meaningless spin that annoyed me but that he conked May out so harshly. And then put her in a straightjacket on a plane. We went from ‘you sir, are no Steve Rogers’ to boo hiss territory.
Phil was left realising that he doesn’t have the power to protect his women now that he’s stepped down from being a director.
I would really like it if they resolved the not!ghosts sooner rather than later. I want aliens, not ghouls on this show.
