Caught up on The Good Wife 4.03
I like Judge Marx!

It took the delightful Nick essentially saying ‘me husband, you wife’ for me to realise that Kalinda and he are meant to be a counterpoint to Alicia and Peter. It’s still bordering on tiresome, though.

I remember thinking I’d probably have made a decision either way if I was her (and it probably would have involved Will) instead of this dithering – until the end. At the moment, I’m minded to think ‘CHEAP PLOY’ as if we’re meant to change our minds about Alicia at this point. I didn’t take her ‘I don’t care’ as likely to lead to this, even allowing for being taken by Will’s sultry eyes and the empty handed reach.

We’ll see – although I wish we’d actually seen Kalinda tell Eli what the staffer/ringer had said. Just a bit, it could have segued into him talking to Alicia. The first half where he was after confirmation about dates was pretty tense, especially as I was wondering if the fact that he’d deleted the message would come up (again?)

Anyway, I got into the case of the week enough to handwave issues with its ripped from the headlines status (I got nostalgic about Netscape, as I daresay I was meant to), and although I noticed that Will was behaving hubristically, I disliked Gross so much that I wanted them to beat him – perhaps some other time this season? Ah well, given the financial squeeze and WillandDiane’s issues with the Trustee, Will will be able to kick himself for probably giving Gross the idea of buying out the claimants. Hubris, William.

The fact that they outclassed the other lawyer repeatedly won’t pay the bills.

I quite like the Trustee winning Diane over.

I am also SURE that we’ll have a Cary-heavy episode soonish to make up for what little he has to do in these episodes. (But before that, as she was mentioned, Alicia’s mother and thus Owen will return. And before that, probably, Jackie.)

But that wasn’t the best episode ever...

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries – LBD eps 30 to 37, Lydia’s vlog 3-7 and the 3rd question and answer vid (about which I have nothing to say, actually).

I found some of these eps a bit meh, especially the heavy quoting from the book of ‘turn around the room’ - more translation like all the way Darcy, and by extension Caroline, can keep in touch with his sister. I also thought we could have had some editorial commentary from Charlotte about Lizzie’s take on things – had to make do with Jane, who is ridiculously endearing in the slightly more assertive and doing a Darcy impersonation version. Which was adorable! What she was saying, is what I mean. Yes, he was bragging, but probably in an ‘I did this kind of manly thing,’ way.

Meanwhile, Lydia and Mary’s relationship has turned out to be touching, even though the vlog works less well than Lizzie deliberately setting out to talk about things that happened and then getting interrupted (oh, you’re getting Caroline so wrong, babe – I suspect her of plotting to create a mash-up of all the worst things that Lizzie has said, although the fact that Caroline egging her on and all the context will be on teh interwebz makes it a rubbish plan). I feel better about my LOTR referencing in ‘Favoritism’ (why thank you for your approval of fanfic, show! From what I’ve gleaned though, it isn’t so much Lizzie and Darcy's ‘epic adventures’ as their making out and getting it on.) Presumably Sam is the Jackson boys’ cousin...do they have pets? KITTY BENNET! (meet...Orlando the turtle).

I hope that we have some sort of pay-off with Mary talking to Lizzie and Jane about the caring, feeding and handling of Lydia, though.

And we’re back at home – I wondered if it would look different (no) and if not, if they’d lampshade it (yes). And there’s thesaurus-spouting “Mr Collins” (heh to the pyramid scheme). And I thought ‘that’s an empty mug’, but no! It wasn’t. And then Lydia vs Mr Collins was GLORIOUS. (Mary Kate Wiles had fun with that one.)

I do find the pointing out that Lizzie is prejudiced and sees the world according to her interpretation just a smidge heavy-handed (because it’s the show makers’ interpretation of the book. I mean, it’s reductive to claim that the prejudice is all on the one side and the pride on the other. Furthermore, I've read some of the creators' comments and it's all blah, blah deepening the other characters, which fine, but don't flatten the main one.)

Although having Lizzie's sisters impersonate him is fun, I am eager to see Darcy by now.

*Diane Lockhart and Lizzie Bennet, respectively
