shallownessI have been watching a lot of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Batch 1 was on Tuesday and covered episodes 43 - 50 (encompassing a few Maria of the Lu eps)
Scones may be British, but raspberry tea isn’t really, Lizzie Bennet.
I particularly enjoyed the Darcy Wickham Drama, as seen and blown up by Lizzie. (Nice foreshadowing and moving on of things re Jane-Bing too.)
Maria of the Lu sounds cool, but she isn’t the character I actually want to see at this point (although yay! sisterhood and all.) (And evil genius with-holding of Darcy.) (But The Pressure they put themselves under re: casting.) The incoherent ramblings about Dr Who frightened me as a non-fan. At least Lydia is always entertaining. BUT ensuing Maria episodes were better, more relevant to the story – and with broader references than just DW.
Well, hello then, Wickham. (Substantially different from ‘Hello there, Wickham’. FYI.) At least Lizzie’s lust wasn’t so overpowering that she didn’t roll her eyes at the Vin Diesel-The Rock-Batman thing a bit. (The storytelling business is not as silly!) Slightly too lumbering in covering all the points they needed to cover in introducing him, although the direct quoting of the novel worked better here than it has sometimes done.
Increasingly nice job on showing Wickham’s narcissistic touches/echoes of Lydia. Plus it was good to see Jane around someone who isn’t in the known her all her life circle to compare and contrast with Bing.
I have something to say about a Q and A vid. This one, with George, highlighted that Jane and Bing’s relationship status is very weird in these days. It also raised questions about where Lizzie and George were at beyond flirting on camera. But ep 47 answered a lot of the above questions (also FINE, if we can’t have actual Darcy, Lydia MUST be involved in the all the re-enactments). Ouch, ouch, ouch for Jane. All the recent talking to blokes and her mother and what Darcy and Caroline have likely been saying – ouch, ouch, OUCH. Although, frankly I’ve been wondering what kind of medical student Bing is to have all this free time.
Ep 48 (Snickerdoodles) EMOTIONAL. Loved that they made such a big thing of Jane giving her permission to post this, although her hope that Caroline would see it and get Bing to act was enough to make you gulp for her. Sad Lizzie! Manic/crafting Jane! More abandonment for Lizzie (although she doesn’t seem to have been missing Charlotte as much as C was missing her.)
Shorts, shorts, shorts. Lizzie is in no way a peach (aww, she looked really pale in 49).
And in ep 50, she was okay with flaky, careless, casual George. But Charlotte calling made her lip wobble, which was adorable. Heh to the waving around of Bridget Jones’s Diary. I've said it before, but LBD is pretty good at the big stuff, but doesn't always do the most it could with the build-up, to my mind.
