shallowness: Catwoman looking at the Batsign in the Gotham City night sky (Catwoman watching Batverse films)

I can’t remember the show starting in media res, then scrolling back a few days before. Did it add anything? It’s odd that it hasn’t when it uses flashbacks so liberally, although I’m probably forgetting an episode.

Anyway, I was a little surprised that they got a totally new NotW when there were so many story strands, even though she turned out to be a psychologist who could read John and his issues rather well. I did start wondering why they felt the need to have every character observe how cute Amy Acker is (taking cute with the overtone of kittens and puppies rather than the broader American meeting), so yes, I had no suspicions that Turing = Root. Like The Machine, I was sucked in by the mirage, although in hindsight, there were quite a few clues. Good to see Acker getting to turn on a dime (note: I exclaimed Peyton! and not Illyria!)

A nice bonus in this ep, as it was the finale was ZOE! NOT BOTHERING TO TRY TO FIX HIM! And being acerbic competent, helpful and worried about Reese.

I enjoyed Alicia spying on Finch – there was something amusing and satisfying about it.

We were quickly caught up to what we saw before and they almost didn’t add any shades to it, except I’d thought I’d spotted Fusco in the control room before, and now it made more sense. I loved how there were so many agendas going on in that room and no certainty that they’d help Reese. The chase(s) after Reese and Turing were really tense.

Got to love a show that involves planning nicking a helicopter. Finch’s move of blocking everyone else’s comms was brilliant.

At last, Carter and Fusco found out about each other! And he was trying so hard to prove to the one good cop in the city that he was doing good. OH LIONEL, stealth ace of the series.

I loved that they were the ones to rescue Reese. Him blowing up the car full of dirty cops (I approved of his taking their weapons from them) was his apology for not trusting them with the truth, especially Carter, and gratitude for saving his life. Then at the end, I loved the little moment of Carter, withholding a smile of approval from Fusco, or not letting him see it, but as he was basking in his own feelings about having done the right thing, he didn’t need it really.

Reese seeking The Machine’s help – was that The Phone from the last episode? – was genius.

Really good closer, leaving the series open (after all, we still haven’t got the whole story of what happened to Nathan, Reese’s ex-partner is in the city and they may have brought Elias and HR down low for now, but there’s no way that’s the end of organised crime and corruption in the city, not forgetting the men Alicia should have been scared of, let alone Root’s agena). One half of the dynamic duo is in peril, the other – who’d been the one in peril for most of the episode – is just going to have to rescue his friend.

I'm already looking forward to when the Batman show comes back. As I've covered since I first saw started watching it, it's been surprisingly involving.
