shallowness: Sky High's Warren Peace smiling (Warren Peace smiles!)
[personal profile] shallowness
This weekend The AV Club reminded me of how much I love Sky High: Believe it or not, Sky High is a blast

and
John Mullan wrote an interesting article about dancing and balls in Jane Austen (It’s to promote a TV show on the subject that I’ll try to catch.)

And then at various points in the past, I read/came across this other stuff too...

Darcy Lewis love post by ljc that is so right about why fandom has adopted the character.

The critical romantic and watching TV

I do get this. I refused to let myself get that invested in Lost, giving up after the first season. I’d also add from an UK perspective that we have more experience of TV shows lasting as long as they need to – I’m thinking of comedied. Fawlty Towers is the prime example of lasting as long as it needs to, and influencing other sit coms. But most British shows don’t last for 22 hours (at least) and don’t aim to at least replicate that five times. And I always find the attempt to fit most TV series into that mould baffling. Okay, I’m thinking more of dramas here, but in the majority of cases you’re going to have weaker, if not duff, episodes, let alone seasons.

A thought-provoking piece about the genre.
