My version of the fandom in 2023 meme

Your main fandom(s) of the year: For reading fic, MCU and then Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings/the Rings of Power/the Silmarillion, Zootopia. For writing fic – ha, ha. As I said in the last post, Sanditon, Hart of Dixie and Harry Potter.
I wasn’t especially fannish about new films. The only MCU film that I saw was Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, which worked as a satisfying close for that trilogy, but I’m lukewarm about the rest of the MCU and whatever comes next for the DCU. I’ve seen all the Fantastic Beasts films now. I was glad to see the next instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise and it did enough to get me to want to see the next film. I participated in Barbenheimer on my own terms. I was glad to find fic for some films that I saw for the first time on streaming, but nothing stronger.
For TV: Hart of Dixie, The West Wing, Strictly Come Dancing. Sanditon, Ghosts, The Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time, although I’m behind on fan activity on all of them.
For books, the Cormoran Strike series, as I was giddy about ‘The Running Grave.’
Best film you watched this year: In the cinema: Barbie. On DVD: On The Rocks (even if I think it’s slighter than Coppola’s Lost In Translation, Bill Murray is great and how many films about daughters and fathers are there from a female POV?) On Blu-Ray: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (it was the only movie I watched on Blu-Ray this year, though.) Streaming: Dune and Petite Maman.
Best book you read this year: The Pearl Thief: Elizabeth Wein. The best reread was The Night Circus: Erin Morganstern.
Your favourite album and/or song to listen to this year: Album: Profound Mysteries 1 by Royksopp. Song: Padam, Padam by Kylie
Your favourite TV show of the year: Ghosts
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: I wasn’t able to see Everything Everywhere All At Once and Women Talking in the cinema (but I watched them at home eventually) or The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan, which meant I didn’t bother with the Milady sequel. I didn’t get to see Past Lives in the cinema, either (but I’ve got a copy on DVD.) So, I’ve got over most of those. I didn’t use the ‘grumbling’ tag, so although I found lots of things somewhat disappointing content wise, it’s hard to come up with something that stands out, perhaps it was that I didn’t get back into fic writing.
Your biggest squee moments of the year: Getting to go back to the cinema. There was a big smile on my faces as Guardians of the Galaxy 3 started, and when ‘Creep’ started playing, I felt that I was slap bang in the middle of the target audience. The finale of Sanditon s3 made me happy, especially in comparison with the finales of the first two series.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year: Getting to see Dune 2 in the cinema, because that feels like a film that should be seen on the biggest screen possible. I’m intrigued by the news there’ll be an Inside Out 2, but I hope the creatives had Really Good Ideas because most sequels I've seen don't inspire confidence. I’m looking forward to Argylle, I think, too.
I’m not sure what’s coming up on the telly. Will there be an adaptation of ‘The Ink Black Heart’? I’m curious to see how they’ll adapt a big chunk of that. I’m saving The Wheel of Time season 2 for after I’ve gone through some more fanac, but my expectations are tempered (e.g. Rand will turn up and I’ll roll my eyes.)
Favourite couple of 2023: Books: Robin/Cormoran (The Running Grave). TV: Charlotte Heyward/Xander Colbourne (Sanditon), Josh/Donna (The West Wing) Zoe/Wade (Hart of Dixie, despite What He Did in season 2).
Favourite main character of 2023: Galadriel in The Rings of Power? I laugh at her, but I love her ferocity. (Admittedly, Alison Cooper from Ghosts is a much better role model.)
Favourite other character of 2023: CJ Cregg. Miss Hankins from Sanditon turned out to be a stealth heroine.
Favourite team of 2023: Teamwork seemed to be a theme in quite a few movies I saw. Strike and Robin's feelings got in the way of their partnership at times. So, Audrey, Kudshayn and Cora in ‘From Darkness Into Light’.
