shallownessLarger recs post than usual for the last time in 2024. Fanfiction and fanvid recs in the following fandoms: Emily of New Moon, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Farscape, The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings, My Fair Lady, The Rings of Power, Marvel Cinematic Universe and Spinning Silver.
Emily of New Moon
No pictures of him squarely: hardlygolden (Teddy/Emily, second person POV)
So gorgeous. It flowed, felt true to Montgomery's style and characters, and the central place of art for Teddy was just so.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Ramalama (Bang Bang): Mithborien (Evelyn-centric, Evelyn/Waymond, Evelyn & Joy)
This conveyed so much of the film's bonkers energy, the family relationships and Evelyn's selves. Impressive! (Other commentators praised the rhythms of the editing.)
Farscape
The Way We Are: Nestra (Aeryn/John, post ‘The Way We Weren’t’ ficlet. It’s tagged as explicit, but it’s really not. It’s more like teen.)
I really appreciate the way this missing scene, a conversation between John and Aeryn, shows how far she’s come already here. It’s great.
The Hunger Games
You Make No Sound But I Can Hear You In The Wind: geckaholic (Annie/Finnick ficlet, spoilers for everything)
Gorgeous and heartbreaking. (One typo.)
The Lord of the Rings
Garden of Gondor: Altariel (Gen, Faramir, Eowyn, their family, ficlet collection)
Gorgeous kaleidoscope of a rich family life. Loved the children's differing perspectives on their inheritance.
Valinor, Let Me Go: Aria (gen, ensemble, movieverse, spoilers for everything)
I really loved this vid for what it showed about what the War of the Ring demanded of so many, but always with the thread of what being a Ring Bearer demanded of Frodo, especially. Such clever clip selections to match the lyrics, making such interesting connections.
My Fair Lady
‘Enry ‘Iggins: Small Hobbit (Eliza/Henry ER drabble)
This is spot on. Love the idea them like this, with Higgins (accurately) translating Eliza's every utterance.
The Rings of Power
At Her Side, Never To Depart: Rav3nB1ack (Miriel/Elendel, AU future fic)
I love that Elendil is encouraging and enabling Miriel to be her best self and how hopeful it is as a result. Also, these two, adoring each other but fixed in the roles of Queen and knight!
Marvel Cinematic Universe
A Pretty Picture: elenniel (Loki/Sif, post-Endgame)
Adorable post-Endgame fluff (which remembers everyone has a right to be wary of a redeemed Loki) that made the shipper in me beam.
Spinning Silver
For Services Rendered: The Blue Escapist (Outsider POV, Irina/Mirnatius)
Excellent job with the outsider POV. Milda was so fully realised and fit into the world of the court, and her perspective of Irina and Mirnatius's relationship (and meddling) was so fun and sharp.
