shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (Rogue X-Men Films)
[personal profile] shallowness

The ficathon closes at the end of the month, but I don't think I'll be looking up any more prompts. So, for completeness's sake:

Doc Brown’s, Sky High, Medulla, ‘any fandom, any, a fetish for mad scientists’ (92 words)

Medulla puts on his white coat with a thrill. Not the thrill he has when he puts it on at Sky High, about to perform an exciting new experiment that may change history or mean they have to conduct the rest of the lesson outside. It's more like the thrill that a normie might experience putting on a freshly laundered shirt and his lucky tie, because if what Igor told Medulla about this new club, Doc Brown’s, and its patrons’ enthusiasm is true…Medulla's hair would stand on end, if he had any.

Career Pathway, Harry Potter, Luna, Flitwick, ‘Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Quidditch commentary’ (60 words)

"Quidditch really is very interesting," Luna says, "as much for what it reveals about people as the other stuff. I’ve enjoyed commentating and some people have been quite complimentary, but no, Professor Flitwick, I don't plan on making a career of it."

"Thank Merlin for that, I'm so glad you—er, plan to use your prodigious gifts in other ways."

The Pop-up Shop, Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Mahoney, ‘Any fandom, any, a little shop that wasn’t there yesterday and won’t be there tomorrow’ (150 words) Three-sentence version. Author's prefered six-sentence version behind the cut.

Mahoney is on her way to open up the Wonder Emporium from the Mutant's place with the beginnings of a sonata or maybe more in her mind. It emerged after she said goodbye to him, making her barely notice the bus ride. Suddenly afraid the idea is too restless a thing and the succession of notes that came to her will fly right back out of her mind if she doesn’t get it down, she reaches inside her purse for a sheet and realizes it’s her date purse. She looks up in consternation. But there, out of the corner of her eye – and she can hear Mr Magorium saying that sometimes that’s the best view – she spots a tiny music store that she knows she's never seen on this street before and suspects she'll never find again. Mahoney smiles, a twinkle in her eye, and rushes out of her seat.

“Hello?”, MCU, Darcy Lewis. 'Any, Any, "Hello?". (73 words. Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity Wars)

Darcy had volunteered to go on a food run while Jane leaned over computer screens, deaf to rumbling stomachs.

"Hello?" Darcy called out as she re-entered the room, the word coming out automatically, even as she took in its emptiness.

No answer, no Jane, no Erik, none of the other scientists she'd just met and brought Thai food for, just sheets of paper fanned out on the floor, a phone on a chair.

Still Learning, X-Men: Alternate Timeline Movies, Hank McCoy, ‘X-men, any, For decades Xavier’s was the only wheelchair accessible foster care facility in rural New York’ (113 words)

Hank thinks the only way to make this fostering scheme work is for Charles to erase the kids' memories as they leave the mansion, but Charles refuses to do it, even for the kids who stay for only a few nights – too haunted by what he did to Moira.

But Corey, Kathryn and all the children that follow them are so visibly relieved to find a place where they can push themselves around, explore and feel at home, that Hank comes to accept that they'll keep the mansions’ secrets. Like Charles, he does his best for them, having learned from his students that it's about ability, whether you're a disabled or mutant kid.
