shallowness: HP films' Minerva reads the Daily Prophet (Minerva reads)
I did watch Strike live (over the returning Agents of SHIELD, but that was an extra-long ep), but I wanted to check a couple of things against the book, and haven't had a chance to post until now.

I haven't been posting or around much because my Freeview box played up (I thought it was my remote, but no), which means I'm still catching up on TV. Furthermore, I fell down a figurative rabbit hole (drawerfic) and I'm not sure I'm out yet. And the warnings for this show made it not the sort of show you want to be eating along to. But anyway, there has been snow in my neck of the woods, and I got around to watching this.

spoilers for the adaptation and the book )

The one advantage of not having caught up with it until now is that I have less time to wait for part 2. And then after that...

I've just checked. We have a title, but no publication date for book 4.

Way back at the start of the week, I posted We Are Golden - a Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye ficlet (Sue/Jack, post-canon). Summary: The new ring on her finger keeps catching the light, drawing Sue’s eye.

In other fannish news, because The Lake House has been in the ether and because I was under the weather, I rewatched the 90s adaptation of Persuasion. Read more... )

I then went back to watching The Lake House on Valentine’s Day, which is accidentally apt. It made me think I should push 'Persuasion' up my rereading list, because from memory, TLH's take on the book is...selective.

And I have seen The Shape of Water. (Swoon.) not massively spoilery )

Finally, Strike: Career of Evil is being aired really soon – at the end of the month.

In the meantime, when is the next book going to be published???

I didn’t realise that they’d be adapting each novel in three parts or that we’d be getting more than one – the build-up passed me by, I only saw the one trailer once. Also I’ve only read each novel the once, so my memory of the books may be hazy. My reaction to the adaptation, on the whole, is positive.

I will be watching bits of the adaptation of ‘The Silkworm’ through my fingers.

Huh, the number of fics up at AO3 has not exploded - I was expecting there to be slash by now. Perhaps after the episodes have finished airing/when it airs in the US... On the other hand, who knows if there will ever be icons.

I'm not going to discuss the thing that happened in the UK today, because this is a place to express my fannishness and talk about popculture for me, beyond wondering if Rowling will be able to resist using this period as a setting for one of her Cormoran Strike mysteries, eventually. Anyway, I finished 'The Silkworm' by Robert Galbraith AKA J.K. Rowling last night. I was fairly gripped by the story, so I hope I can get across the third book soon (but I'd like to have it in hardback, as I've done with the frist two so it depends on how quickly I come across a second-hand copy, really.)

I finally read The Cuckoo's Calling– let’s say it took me a while to get over The Casual Vacancy, which I didn’t like at all. I enjoyed it. What I ask of murder mysteries is that I enjoy the ride, that I like or admire the investigators and that it's not too relentlessly grim or gory. I play along, but not too hard and not too well at guessing whodunit – I only started guessing right with Christie after reading a ton of her books. Read more... )
