searching for laughs

I hadn’t realised The Mindy Project was back on air in the UK – because I'd failed to make the connection that if New Girl (which E4 is actually promoting) was back, so would TMP be. Then I wondered if I’d decided I was dumping the show after the second season. I’ve subsequently checked, and that wasn't the case, although I had mixed feeling about it. The show’s cancelled, though, anyway, isn’t it, which bodes well for the quality...

In other TV news, the Beeb, which has forged a relationship with the Agatha Christie estate to celebrate her centenary, is doing an adaptation of Partners in Crime i.e. Tommy and Tuppence. I am looking forward to Jessica Raine as Tuppence, but David Walliams isn’t my mental idea of Tommy at all, and he’ll have to overcome that the last time I saw him was camping it up to wind Simon Cowell up on BGT (not my choice to watch it).

Meanwhile, on the Emmys, yay for Julianna Margulies (although Tatiana Maslany should have been nominated!). I feel miffed on Josh Charles's part - I obviously didn't see all the other actors and have zero desire to watch Breaking Bad however good it is - because I thought he was genuinely outstanding in the season that's gone of The Good Wife.

I'm also pleased about the Sherlock wins - 3.03 was the best episode of the last series. I've been on a bit of a Sherlock kick recently. Specifically, Sherlock/Molly (Sherlolly is one of the stupider portmanteau names as it makes me think of lollipops.) It's strange, in that I'm not sure that I actually want it to happen in canon, but if fic writers want to convince me that it would be a good step for both characters, I'll happily buy into it. The more I read, the more it'll bleed into my attitude when watching the show (three episodes and a Christmas special!) Also, I shold note that me being me, with the time I take to get around to reading fic, I'm reading fic produced between season 2 and 3.

Worth recording because ~~I have a tag for it~~ they happen so rarely, or because I remember dreams so rarely, I had a The Mentalist dream last night. I think I knew I was watching it as a show. It started off as Lisbon-centric. A woman, possibly Kim, although Lisbon seemed to be in more of her CBI team leader role, was trying to get her to do something preposterous. Lisbon wasn’t having any of it and you knew she was going to win the argument. Her hair was shorter, but sadly, really limp. Then Jane appeared, and his hair had been shorn too. I was getting really excited to see how they’d show Lisbon and Jane together now, so this was happening after last season, but then the dream moved on and transformed into something completely different.

Obviously, I really don’t want the bad hair aspect to come true when the show returns.

Yesterday did not turn out to be a slobbing about day. That will be today, but I did catch up on The Mindy Project.

So far, I’m not laughing very much at this second series, and many of the problems – the length of it, the tone of some of the humour and the fact they don’t know what to do with most of the staff at the practice – are still there. This year, I’ve enjoyed Brooklyn Nine-Nine, let alone Parks and Recreation so much more. I’m getting more out of the Arrested Development season 4 DVDs even.
