I'd normally post about The West Wing today, but the rugby interrupted my viewing schedule (thank you, Scotland). I've written a first draft of my thoughts about the last two eps I watched, but I want to listen to the podcast before I edit and post them. I suppose I should also note that the news about the release of Black Widow doesn't make much difference to me - hopefully, I'll get to see it on DVD at some juncture, like Mulan and WW1984. I was sad to hear that Jessica Walters, who gave us Lucille Bluth, has passed away.

Anyway, here are some fanfiction recs. They're in the following fandoms: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Possession, The Secret Garden, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Tam Lin (Pamela Dean). )

At the start of the week, I posted a ficlet Reaching (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Kira Nerys, missing scene for 3.15 ‘Destiny). My first Deep Space Nine ficlet, and I know it’s niche, a response by me to something I felt was lacking in the episode as I rewatched it. After writing no fiction all of January and most of February, I was glad to have something to post. There has been a bit more fic writing than this since the end of February, but who knows if it’ll come to anything.

I watched Noughts and Crosses. Will post thoughts eventually.

Reaching. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Kira Nerys (Kira Nerys/Bareil Antos). PG. Missing scene from episode 3.15. 277 words. Summary: For a while, she is a grieving, devout woman.

So, given that E4 wasn’t making it easy for me to watch Star Trek: Discovery, and while those with Amazon can watch Star Trek: Picard, I realised that season 3 of DS9 was next on my DVD boxsets to watch pile.

Overall I’ve found the episodes of a similar quality, which is quite good, but with a sense that elements could be developed further (as I found when I rewatched seasons 1 and 2, back in 2015-16). I like that the events of the first two episodes have an impact on what follows, on top of the interspecies space politics already established and the on-station relationships—familial, working and maybe more.

There are a couple of references to events that take place later in the series. )

Recs for fanfiction and fanvids in the following gandoms: Dawson's Creek; Marvel Cinematic Universe; Sherlock; Sky High; The Sound of Music; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and Strike. (There's nothing from Yuletide 2019, but some stuff is from Yuletides past.)

I posted a ficlet! A Practical Solution (Sky High, Warren/Layla, future fic). It’s wintery, if not Christmassy fluff. First drafted after I saw the prompt, polished and posted on Sunday (yesterday on AO3). I may have more to say about this in my annual fic round-up, but this means I’ve posted something every month of this year.

I caught the first hour or so of the Star Trek reboot movie on telly, and similarities between the film and the Star Trek Discovery pilot )

Now this is where my thoughts about episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery should be, but it’s unavailable for catch-up on All 4. I’m irked, and I’m going to be irked every time they advertise it on E4 etc now. If you want people to watch a show (when you’ve been changing the timeslot) and aren’t making it available online even for a week as I’m used to with some American shows, good luck with the viewing figures. I presume it’s a rights thing, but it’s a bit useless.

I probably say this every year, but it’s when there’s no It Takes Two to ‘dissect’ the weekend’s Strictly that it sinks in.

Star Trek Discovery had made it to UK free-to-air TV. So, I gave it a whirl. 1.01 )

I then got sucked into watching Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar, which purports to be (but not really) how Agatha Christie went to Iraq and met her second husband. While solving a murder or two.

This was on Channel 5 )

On Sunday (here) and yesterday (ff.net and AO3) I posted four ficlets:

Not Always Alike (Tangled, Rapunzel, OFC, drabble).

Like You Did Last Summer (When I Was on Vacation) (Sky High, ensemble, double drabble).

Never Say There Weren’t Leftovers (BtVS, teen for gore, Drusilla and Darla, Summary: Darla asks Drusilla if she had a good time. This is about her answer.

At this sime (Star Trek: Enterprise, PG, Trip/T’Pol, In dire circumstances, Trip engages in a breach of protocol.

Regarding that )
