More fic and fanvid recs - gen and het - in the following fandoms: The Lord Peter Wimsey series; Marvel Cinematic Universe; The Mystery of the Blue Train; Only Lovers Left Alive; The Outlaws of Sherwood; Parks and Recreation; Pirates of the Caribbean; Romeo + Juliet; Sherlock (crossover with Harry Potter); Star Trek - Star Trek XI/Firefly, Star Trek-The Next Generation; Strictly Ballroom; and Twister.
The Lord Peter Wimsey series
Gentle Antidote: x_los
Harriet/Peter, long, AU.
This is monumentally good and enjoyable. This is also, I think, the first time I’ve read this kind of soulbond identifying mark fic, and it’s going to set the standard for any others I read, because the writer has really thought through the implications while capturing the tone of the books and the intelligence and the heart of the characters. I loved the interplay with what happens in the books.
MCU
So What: kaydeefalls
This vid is a great celebration of the women of MCU and all they bring to it.
No Fate: tielan
Maria/Steve, M (see tags/warnings)
I love soulmarks fic where real thought is given to the implications of what it would mean (I've read some more soulbond fics since 'Gentle Antidote' and, um, am not reccing them), and here's one. Riveting Maria, affecting Maria/Steve and enjoyable interaction with the women of the 'verse.
The Mystery of the Blue Train
Trip No More: mardia
Katherine Grey/Derek Kettering
This ficlet is a lovely and satisfying coda to the book (by Agatha Christie, featuring Poirot).
Only Lovers Left Alive
Gravitiation: stella_bella
Adam/Eve, teen, post-movie
This is beautiful. The mood is tangible, tinged with Adam's melancholy, but there's substance too, with the love story that is their relationship - much like the film.
The Outlaws of Sherwood
Romantic Notions: Sanj
Cecily-centric (Cecily/Little John)
Well-thought-out expansion on the book.
Parks and Recreation
may, she will stay: ijemanja
Ben/Leslie, post 3.09
This made me smile so, and alcohol-impaired Leslie’s thought processes are spot on.
POTC
Spitfire: Afterthebattle (fanvid)
Oh, Barbossa, you PIRATE, you.
Romeo + Juliet
Can't Stop: bradcpu
I like how the frenetic tone works with the source and song, but is very much under control and how the movie's iconography and play's text are counterbalanced by the characters' faces.
Sherlock (crossover with Harry Potter)
The Case of the Unwanted Owl: pandarus
(gen, long, teen for language, Jossed since written)
Really enjoyable, well-constructed crossover. Poor, put-upon John, having a whale of a time.
Although that wasn't even the weirdest thing to happen this week, let alone this month.
Star Trek XI/Firefly
Symmetry in Orbit: betweenthebliss
A really endearing fic about Pavel getting to know River at the Starfleet Academy.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
London: cosmic_llin
Troi and Riker (with slight Troi/Riker) longish
This vivid story is very much in the spirit of the show.
Strictly Ballroom
And I don’t know if I’m dreaming: seren_ccd
Fran/Scott
This is so in keeping with the film - it emanates warmth like Fran and Strictly Ballroom itself.
Twister
Storm Song: trelkez
(Jo/Storms/Bill)
There’s an intensity and tenderness to this vid.
