Movie thoughts and some links
Sep. 23rd, 2015 07:12 pmI watched Pitch Perfect 2 on DVD last night, having been unable to see it in the cinema. I thought it was a bit of a mess, suffering from sequelitis. It coasted a bit on liking the characters from their previous outing, the actors' charm - Hailee Stanfield is a welcome new addition, in particular - and it is funny in an offbeat way. The musical numbers were generally my favourite parts.
I enjoyed Bill, which I saw in the cinema a few days ago, much more unreservedly. It's the Horrible Histories team doing a Shakespeare biopic and it's very, very funny in an inclusive way, kids will love it, accompanying adults will love it and so will people who know their Shakespeare. Not always for different reasons, either, because doesn't everyone laugh at silly voices? It left me smiling and shipping ( spoiler? )
The thing is, I probably laughed just the same amount when I saw the trailers for both films, but one stuffed most of the film's best jokes into the trailer, while the other had more to choose from...
Right, some links:
( AOU recap; a pointed fake trailer; Inside Out analysis; Jupiter Ascending compared to The Matrix and Firefly stuf )

Fanvid recs (from this year's Festivids)
Feb. 27th, 2014 07:38 pmI haven't seen everything I want to see yet, but here are some recs. ( from (Marvel's) Agents of SHIELD; Brave; Cloud Atlas; The Heat; Indiana Jones; Little Women (1994); Much Ado About Nothing (2013); Disney's Mulan; Never Let Me Go; Pacific Rim; Pride and Prejudice (1995); Snow White and the Huntsman; Spirited Away; and Wall-E )
I had planned to post fic recs too, but that would make this post twice as long, so I'm glad some common sense prevailed.

Clearing the decks
Aug. 24th, 2013 08:37 amYesterday, I finally posted all the fic that I’d posted to Dreamwidth to Archive Of Our Own. Yay! It only took me years to do so. If I were going to archive my fic elsewhere, I might not be as determined to post everything there. This still means that I need to repost fic that was only posted at lj and ff.net (and Geocities, it’s that old) to both DW and AO3. It will probably also take ages, but I’ll warn if I get a burst of energy and start spamming.
For now, here are some links that I found interesting, most of which are Internet old. ( Georgette Heyer quote icons; The Hour meta; The Lizzie Bennet Diaries pics; Much Ado about Nothing interview; Pacific Rim meta; Paradox talk and a list about the awesomeness of Farscape. )

Catch-up post no. 5 (Much Ado...)
Jun. 23rd, 2013 08:34 amMuch Ado about Nothing
I am so glad that I was able to see this. I enjoyed it a lot, I thought that overall it was an intelligent and entertaining adaptation and there were some really good performances and none that I'd term weak. ( What a swellegant party it was )
