shallownessLast recs post of the year: fanfiction and fanvids in the following fandoms: The Cutting Edge, Holiday (1938), The Lord of the Rings, Scorpion, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Thin Man, Veronica Mars and The Wheel of Time (TV). None of them are from this year's Yuletide, although some may be from past Yuletides.
The Cutting Edge
How we spin (and spin): tree (Doug/Kate, post movie)
This is delightful, totally what I wanted after rewatching the movie, the character voices are spot on, only mellowed by admitting they’re in love. Who knew Doug was a sap in his own mind? (We all did, really.)
Holiday (1938)
Our Year: Tafadhali (Linda/Johnny, the Setons)
This new year’s vidlet is delightful! I totally watched it too early/late, but the message comes through and it's joyous. Their FACES! The delight of seeing Linda and Johnny come together, with just enough of the shadows for contrast.
The Lord of the Rings
if I ever do see you again: justanorthernlight (Aragorn/Arwen movieverse)
Gorgeous but melancholy vid, where the lyrics of the song work really well with the footage, and the vidder managed to find a throughline of movement.
Scorpion
Cartoon Physics: Maggiemaye (Toby/Happy ficlet)
Well written, charming, in character. And Looney Tunes!
Star Trek: Enterprise
Indelible: startraveller776 (T’Pol/Trip, post ‘Terra Firma’)
I found this fic moving. Loved how everything they had gone through helped them to reach out, the give and take that let T'Pol muse on the similarities between them, while their differences - Trip's different POV - helped her in her grief too.
The Thin Man
Considerably Before the Thin Man: Fabrisse (Nick/Nora, pre-canon casefic)
This is how Nick Charles meets Nora Forrest.
This is spot on tonally and captures their dynamic from the off so well. (I wouldn’t have minded if it had been longer.)
Veronica Mars
An Uneasy Truce: igrockspock (post-movie Logan/Veronica, Keith, Thanksgiving fic)
So well-measured! I particularly enjoyed seeing Logan and Veronica at this point, mature enough to be honest and capable of working through things.
The Wheel of Time
King and Lionheart: usuallyhats (Moiraine & Lan, spoilers for season 1)
Loved this focus on them in this vid, which really allowed me to notice the details the actors had put in to convince this was a relationship of many years' standing. Great timing all round.
