Bumper recs post (11/?)
Nov. 15th, 2025 03:20 pmDouble the usual amount of recs for fanfiction and fanvids in the following fandoms: The Big Country (1958), Firefly, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Much Ado About Nothing, Original works, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and What Maisie Knew.
The Big Country (1958)
Shall I Go On?: ArtemisDart (Jim/Julie established relationship, Mature)
I am so chuffed that this fic exists (how many times have I rewatched the movie, checked here and seen no fic for these two delightful characters), but also that it's good. The author gets Jim and Julie, and shows their love and appreciation of each other over the years here, and how their family grows as they restore the ranch. Writing a story about storytelling using their catchphrase feels right too.
Firefly
This One Laughing Quietly: thistlerose (Kaylee/Simon ficlet, post series)
Kaylee deserves all the nice things, and here she has an appreciative boyfriend. This is delightful, I loved the take on the situation and the other characters' cameos.
Harry Potter
Variations on the Word Exception: shapechanger (pre Remus/Tonks, teen)
Vividly written h/c.
The Hunger Games
In the woods alone: abvj (Gale, past Gale/Katniss, post Mockingjay)
This ficlet covers so much emotional ground so well.
Lizzie Bennet Diaries
the stars have rekindled their fire: fairytiger (Lizzie/Darcy, teen, v. long)
Has just the right amount of detail, the slow developments because of tropey forced intimacy were paced so well as their compatibility was able to come through. I loved how Christmas and family were woven in too.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Wasp's Nest: gwyn (Natasha, gen, spoilers up to The Winter Soldier)
Loved how fully rounded this character study fanvid was.
Much Ado About Nothing
No more than reason: jamjar (Benedick/Beatrice, long, post play)
I am so late to this fic, but it’s fabulous. I loved the tone, that there's growth as well as bliss for the newlyweds as well as credible issues to work through. I also loved how Hero shone. The witty dialogue that expressed how well matched Benedick and Beatrice are was a delight and impressive.
Original work (kind of)
Is There Life Out There: colls
Humanity's search for life among the stars
This is beautiful, and as other have said mesmerising and awesome because of its kineticism.
William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
Trust + Fall: sandalwoodbox (Juliet/Romeo, teen)
Fabulous fanvid. A new, true perspective on the wretched inevitability of how it all plays out. (More knowledgeable commentators than me raved over the editing.)
What Maisie Knew
One More Step Across The Finish Line: partypaprika (gen, futurefic)
This made my eyes get a little wetter! Delicately and credibly done.
