I'm not sure I'll be posting episode by episode, but my viewing patterns have definitely changed. Some of that's down to Strictly returning and It Takes Two being on when I binge watched season 1, but I've also been reading 'The Ink Black Heart', which I've finished. I'll post that when I've worked out what I want to say about it.

I’m currently reading ‘The Ink Black Heart’, so I’ll be posting about that after I’ve finished it. I’m also taking a brief break from watching Hart of Dixie, because it occurred to me to look up fanfiction. Last night, I was expecting Ghosts to return, but on checking the schedule discovered that BBC One was showing the Strictly Come Dancing launch show instead.

On Sunday, I reposted With those lips (it'd be a waste) (Dark Angel. PG-13. Max, OC, Original Female Characters, Alec. Max/Alec. Words: 2,929. Summary: Girl talk. Flirtation. Realization. Response.)

I wrote this back when I was capable of writing fics above the 2,500 word mark, and it was first posted in May 2006. It was the next fic to be reposted (the old version is up on Livejournal, but this version can now also be found at AO3 and ff.net too. I went back to it that weekend my plans changed at the end of February. Apparently, I’d been editing it in September 2021, although when I read through it in February, that seemed to have involved introducing more punctuation errors. I think I set about editing more on this go around. My sense in doing so is that this fic says more about me then than I realised.

I’ve made a list of all my fics that are currently only available on my LJ or ff.net, so at least I know the scale of it. None of them are Dark Angel fics. I can’t promise to repost these fics any faster than I have done. I know I ought to try importing again (I don’t think I did back when I started on Dreamwidth) because there are reviews and meta that probably only exist there, but I haven’t minded editing old fics before reposting them, it’s just everything else that goes along with that and the time and energy for it. On the other hand, I’m not really writing fic now.

Well, I wrote a three-sentence fill. Original, OFC/OMC, fluff. Ice-cream melt But there isn’t a sff twist or anything to it.

And then, during the week, while watching The Ipcress File (I’ll get to that) I saw that Sanditon is coming back…to Britbox. Oh, ITV etc, that’s not enough to make me subscribe to it. I wonder if it was only after Bridgerton that they got the second series.

So, I won't be cross-posting or posting to Livejournal for the foreseeable future. I had planned to post what’s below and other things over te weekend, but because I did not save a document when I thought I had, I can only offer this.

The West Wing 3.22 Posse Comitatus

I finally got to rewatch this (the upside of getting the third season on DVD is that I can also finally watch ‘Isaac and Ishmael’.) FWIW, I watched this, listened to The West Wing Weekly podcast and drafted this before Russia under Putin launched its invasion of Ukraine.

I'd normally post about The West Wing today, but the rugby interrupted my viewing schedule (thank you, Scotland). I've written a first draft of my thoughts about the last two eps I watched, but I want to listen to the podcast before I edit and post them. I suppose I should also note that the news about the release of Black Widow doesn't make much difference to me - hopefully, I'll get to see it on DVD at some juncture, like Mulan and WW1984. I was sad to hear that Jessica Walters, who gave us Lucille Bluth, has passed away.

Anyway, here are some fanfiction recs. They're in the following fandoms: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Possession, The Secret Garden, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Tam Lin (Pamela Dean). )

Happy new year! May it be better than the last.

I normally post my top 10 or so films of the year*, but, obviously, I went to see far fewer films in the cinema than usual this year, a total of six, which is probably the least since I became a teenager. They were: Little Women, Bombshell, A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood, Emma., Birds of Prey: or the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn and Misbehaviour (in chronological order). Themes include: literary adaptations, films about the making of TV, strongly female casts and feminist themes. Five of them were directed by women.

So instead of doing a list of my faves, I’ll rank the ones I saw in reverse order of preference:

I’ve been reposting some ficlets to Dreamwidth and AO3 the last couple of days, one Dark Angel gen, baby’s first Sky High ficlets: two featuring Warren/Layla pining and one gen fic from Principal Power’s POV. I’ve still got a pile of fics to repost whenever I have the bandwidth. Trying to work out what I was thinking when it came to formatting and titles of documents in 2006 was a challenge..

Last night, I took advantage of the fact the BBC now has Battlestar Galactica on the iPlayer and I can watch that on my telly and watched the first part of the miniseries. I’m in – I thought I would be, but I was also curious, because I come at it having read some novelisations of the original series (don’t judge), not being able to see it when it first aired, but having picked up a lot by fannish osmosis.

Since lockdown, I’ve made Saturday night movie night, and rewatched my The Hobbit and LOTR extended edition DVDs and now all my Batman movies (which don’t include the live action TV series, the animated stuff or Batfleck). The Lego Batman Movie capped it off very amusingly as it riffs off past iterations. I was going to list them in my preferred order. Indeed, the other week I was going to list some of what is wrong with Batman and Robin, (so much!) but Joel Schumacher recently passed away, so maybe now is not the time.

Mainly about my emotional investment in the above. )

I posted That Merrie Month of May (original micro fiction, historical English setting, May Queen/May King) on Wednesday, which again involved manual crossposting. (Ugh.) I wrote it last Saturday after seeing the prompt, polished it on Sunday and posted it to the comm then because it’s meant to be set in May, so it’s a timely fic. There are quite a few fics, original and fanfiction, that I’ve written drafts of but haven’t had the drive to complete and post. The original fic might be more likely to appear, because that just needs general editing, but the fanfiction requires research. Ah well, this is a long weekend (when I might get distracted by doing other stuff).

Having dipped into several features on the LotR:EE DVDs over the past three weeks, I was struck by how pretty much everyone is in love with Viggo Mortenson, including the makers of the documentaries. I have enjoyed returning to their Middle Earth a lot.

I meant to post yesterday, but sorting out stuff led to the figurative can of worms of needing to sort out another thing entirely. Oh well, I have two tidy piles of paper and I know what I’ll mostly be doing this afternoon. I also have to catch up on the Noughts + Crosses finale.

At the start of the week, I posted a ficlet Reaching (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Kira Nerys, missing scene for 3.15 ‘Destiny). My first Deep Space Nine ficlet, and I know it’s niche, a response by me to something I felt was lacking in the episode as I rewatched it. After writing no fiction all of January and most of February, I was glad to have something to post. There has been a bit more fic writing than this since the end of February, but who knows if it’ll come to anything.

I watched Noughts and Crosses. Will post thoughts eventually.

I reposted a fic on Sunday. Can’t tell yet if that’s a one-off or something I’ll do more regularly. It should be the latter as there are still plenty of ficlets of mine only available on Livejournal and ff.net.

Anyway, I have a TV show to discuss!

The Pale Horse 1/2 or is it Agatha Christie’s The Pale Horse?

I posted two X-Men: Dark Phoenix ficlets over the weekend. One was ‘broken promise’ a Scott POV prompt fill responding to the events of the movie, and the other was ‘The Most Dangerous Player on the Tour’, a tennis AU take on the events of the movie. Jean being the player in question. This is what happens when I go to see X-Men Dark Phoenix on the closing weekend of the French Open. I’ve started many tennis AUs in my time, but never posted any before. I suspect no actual newspaper would publish anything like that, but it was fun translating characters and their mutations into the world of tennis.

I saw that people were doing a first lines meme just as I was about to post the above – dilemma! What do you do? I swept through my first lines of the last 10 fics on AO3. Some I liked more than others. I was chuffed that they were all from 2019.

Fine. I’ll do the last lines meme.

It's an appropriate day to do some shipposting, right?

Selina Kyle/Bruce Wayne AKA Catwoman/Batman (most iterations of Batman, but most recently Gotham).

Phew. If I do more shipposting, it's likely to be less extensive.
