I posted nine fics this year, five were ficlets, but four passed the thousand-word mark, which is a lot for me. The only fandom I wrote more than once in was Downton Abbey, (ha!) most were obscure fandoms, or old or featured less popular pairings – this was brought home to me by writing a vignette in the MCU (it had three times the number of hits on AO3 of any other fic I wrote this year.) Six of these fics were based on prompts, mainly from lj's comment_fic. Six were het pairings, and I’d say I ship four of those pariting strongly, while the other two are canonical, and the other three fics were gen.

X-men movieverse (post X2), PG, Rogue. Written for the prompt Yeah, the river it spoke to me. It told me I’m small, and I swallowed it down. 119 words.

Let's get this right, four hundred years ago (actually, a few weeks ago) I went to see X-Men Days of Future Past. I started to write a review, or at least a reaction post, ran out of time before I'd said all I wanted to say and for a while didn't have the time to finish off my thoughts and check I'd spelt everyone's names properly. Oh for a timeturner or a mutant with helpful powers. Anyway, here it is.

While I remember, a thing I learned this week was that Makenzie Vega was in X-Men 3 spoiler? ). The rewatch is continuing – I am now willing to concede that X2 is more assured than X-Men, X-Men 3's script needed another few drafts and my interest in The Wolverine dipped whenever Yukio wasn't on screen.. Next: XMFC, which I know will make me less grumpy.

Agents of SHIELD 1.22 Beginning of the End

I enjoyed fair bits of this, and there were other bits that I thought that were less good, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the (smart) decisions made.

(I've started the X-Men rewatch. I'm going to go X-Men, X2, X-Men 3, The Wolverine, X-Men First Class and avoiding Wolverine: Origins. X-Men was mainly about nostalgia about fannish reactions to it as much as the film itstelf and making me curious about how they're going to pull it all together in Days of Furture Past. Oh, and seeing how the film compates with modern day superhero movies, which it helped influence.)

I saw that the show has been renewed for a second season. Frankly, I was hoping it would be cancelled, because I was leaning towards giving it up after this season. But then, this episode was good enough that I would say that there was much less snark involved in my enjoyment of it that usual.

In other news, the new X-Men film is soon upon us and my grand plans to rewatch most of the movies hasn't happened. In between now and then, I've got RL commitments, catching up on TV and watching other films to cram in. Er, we'll see.

I was honestly starting to wonder how long I'd be sticking with Agents of SHIELD, but then, I rather enjoyed this episode.

[personal profile] purple_cube asked for my fannish timeline over the past ten years - which fandom I most associate with each year etc.

Picking one fandom for some years was really hard, because it turns out I’ve always been multifannish, which the nature of livejournal encouraged. But here goes!

I couldn’t see it until yesterday, but I managed not to get spoiled beyond that fandom seemed to be enjoy it. As did I.

Going in, I was sure that a Guillermo Del Toro film about giant robots versus giant alien beasts would avoid many of the pitfalls of, say, a Michael Bay film about alien giant robots versus alien giant robots. I was wildly excited to see Rinko Kikuchi, who first impressed in Babel and then was Bang Bang in The Brothers Bloom.

Trailers of films that I want to see: The Wolverine ‘s reminded me that I am probably never going to shake off my movieverse Rogue/Wolverine feelings and that I need to rewatch Wolverine. I mean, I don’t know if I really NEED to to get the new film, but in my head, I do.

Gravity showed off a bravura scene. I wanted to see it anyway because of the people involved.

RED 2 may be the best action film this summer in terms of having several female characters do meaty stuff on it. I’m pretty excited about it.

It seemed fitting to mention that one because there was a little bit in Man of Steel that reminded me of X-Men*.

Man of Steel - my reaction to this film is a little more mixed than I’d have liked.
