shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (OUAT Snow White)
So, when I read that Captain America 2 had done well in China, is it daft that I wondered whether that would mean we might get a Push sequel? Common sense kicked in (although in the last few years, we have seen sequels to films I never expected to see sequels of...) I just still feel that there should have been a trilogy with the other instalments being called 'Move' and 'Watch'.

Anyway, yesterday I had the joy of getting spoiled, thanks to some delightful feature writer on The Guardian. I was innocently scrolling down the Culture page and bam, that would be a spoilery headline and summary for The Mindy Project an American sitcom that hasn't restarted airing here in the UK, the country the paper is from. And it wasn't a mere X is cast as Y's Z, which can be bad enough. Why couldn’t they and/or whoever was responsible for the spoilery headline and summary just carry on chattering about Girls and Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad (i.e. shows I don’t watch)? Grr to them and their commissioning editor.

I am starting to come to terms with the fact that it's now autumn. I missed watching the Strictly show (and The One Show special, for that matter), so will have to catch up on it alongside the OUaT finale when I have proper internet access.)

shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (Downton Abbey Edith)
This week, I decided to treat myself and buy more Livejournal icons, but after immediately bringing back a bunch of old ones I missed, I have a few gaps to fill. I’m umming and ahhing over resuscitating one or two further ones, but I also don’t want to have placeholders that I’ll replace when shows like Downton Abbey come back.

However, I desperately want an icon/icons of people from something that I love being happy/amused/laughing. Since I started watching it, I’ve wished there were more The Mindy Project icons out there to pick from. I don’t understand why there are so few: it’s a colourful show with far from ugly people pulling funny faces. I know it hasn’t been massive in fandom, but still.

Anyway, if anyone would like to rec icon makers who they love, please do so!

I caught up on the penultimate episode of Top of the Lake on Friday, but last night sat down to watch Glorious 39 on DVD, mistimed it and didn’t watch the final episode of TotL. I will watch it when I get the time and nerve (I’m more worried about being spoiled offline) and post about both episodes.

As for Glorious 39

I went to see RED2 and it totally lived up to my expectations! Three significant women characters (if there hadn’t been, I might be grumbling about the sexist hiring policies of the spy/military agencies on display). BUT there was more awesome Helen Mirren as Victoria (extra awesome because now RED fanvidders will have more footage to play with.) And if Mirren, Malkovitch (and Willis, Hopkins, martial arts geniuses etc) weren’t in the film, Parker might have walked away with it. I really liked that Sarah Expandspoilers )

I’ve held off from posting about Nashville, because I thought there were 22 episodes in the season, not 21 – which does seem a random number, although, in hindsight, given the DRAMA of episode 21, of course it was a finale. As I found out when I tried to catch up with a non-existent episode this morning.

How to describe my feelings for the show? I’ve quite enjoyed it, although I didn’t love how they went for the second half of the season with Scarlett/Gunnar, which was what I most passionately cared about, although I like Scarlett’s journey. I enjoy the music (much more than I thought I would), which is used really well within the show, and I appreciate the drama, but I’ve never felt compelled to watch the next episode (like I’m itching to see the next episode of Top of the Lake or how there is no question that I’ll watch Once Upon a Time). My attitude has always been more ‘I’ll catch up with it eventually.’ It might help if More4 air season 2 in a 9pm slot - but not The Good Wife's. I enjoy the dynamics that having two female leads brings out. Also, I would love to see some Juliette/Liam happening at some point.

I remembered this was on with several minutes to spare, so I got to see the episode of New Girl with the Expandthing ) I was spoiled for months ago. I don't quite get New Girl, I have to admit. Am I too old for it? But then I was acting like a Rugrat earlier in the night - that reference probably dates me.

Anyway, the Mindy Project was quite amusing (I wasn't laughing so much as I was the night before when rewatching Arrested Development's 'Best Man for the GOB', say). ExpandRead more... )

Also that night I rewatched an Arrested Development episode that featured Jane Lynch, Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Amy Poelher as guest performers. I thought that was notable.

And then, courtesy of musesfool, I saw Ryan Hansen’s vid responding to all the Kickstarter awesomeness that’s getting the Veronica Mars movie to be made and allowing him to reprise Dick Casablancas. Even if you don’t care about VM, it's wortth watching. It surely made him win at the interwebs the day he posted it.

I watched this because the third episode is meant to be better. It had better be given that, like in the first episode, a lot of the humour is very creaky sitcom set-ups and the rest borders on Carry On Politely Requesting Votes for Women Expandspoilers )

I went to see Iron Man 3 a second time yesterday, and I'm glad that it was the second time, otherwise that audience would have irritated me far more. I wouldn't be surprised if the child behind us who was clearly well under 12 and had a tantrum had nightmares after some of the stuff that goes on in that film. Also phone screens were lit up everywhere. Also I may have scalded myself with coffee while sitting down. But the film itself was tremendous fun.
